Meant to tell you about this last week! As you know, I'm just back from that wonderful trip to Ascension Island and St Helena - sorry to go on about it, but it really was fantabulous! Anyway, I was in St John's Kirk (the church I belong to in Perth) last Sunday (5 February) and there was a baptism. Nothing unusual there. What was absolutely amazing was that the godparents are from St Helena and live on Ascension Island where the man (whose name I stupidly didn't get) is one of the Scoutmasters.
Now I know about the Scouts on Ascension because a couple of years ago the other Scout Master - Johnny Hobson (also the island's dentist and Managing Director of the Obsidian Hotel) asked me to take 24 santa hats out to the island with me. I remember it was a bit of a problem to find 24 santa hats in Comrie and necessitated a visit to Perth but it was all in a good cause - it was to dress the scouts up for their Christmas photo! As every single youngster of appropriate age on the island is a Scout or Guide I was lucky they weren't all going to be in the picture!
The maddening thing is that I have a copy of the photo on my computer but it's too big to post on the blog and I'm not clever enough to know how to do it. Anyone out there got any ideas?
Me!
